Graduated in General Medicine from Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique (2003), PhD in Immunology and Virology from Oswaldo Cruz Institute in Brazil (2012).

Junior Postdoctoral Fellowship (2015) and Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship (2018) in Emerging Viral Diseases from the European Foundation Initiative into African Neglected Tropical Diseases in Germany.
His research areas are Emerging Diseases and Climate Change. He has over 100 publications indexed in international scientific journals.

He was a member of the World Health Organization - WHO/AFRO Expert Panel for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and Syphilis in the African region (2016-2017), Member of the Governing Council of the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (2012 – 2016), Chairperson of the Africa CDC Regional Committee for the SADC Region (2022 – 2023), Member of the National Immunization Expert Committee (2010 – 2018).

Currently, he is a member of the Technical-Scientific Committee on Climate Change (2023 – present), Executive Board Member of the Lancet Commission on Climate Change (2023 – present), Chair of the Africa CDC Advisory Board (2023 – present), Board Member of the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (2023 – present), Member of the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) (2024 – present), Member of the WHO Health Systems for Climate Change Policy Working Group (2023 – present).

Between 2010 and 2014, he was Head of the Network of Laboratories and Reference Services Department at INS, from 2014 to 2018 he was Scientific Director of INS, and from 2018 to 2023 he was Deputy Director-General of INS.
