About us
The National Health Institute (INS) is the entity responsible for the management and national-level regulation of activities related to the generation of scientific evidence in Health to promote health and well-being, improve national capacity for preparedness and response to health emergencies, improve specialized health care, and ensure greater rigor in the application of principles and standards for Human Health Research. It is endowed with legal personality and possesses administrative, patrimonial, financial, and technical-scientific autonomy.
The INS is an institution of a multidisciplinary nature, composed of professionals from different fields and oriented towards the execution of essential public health functions. Its activities are carried out in an integrated manner, based on five complementary technical-scientific areas, namely:

For the fulfillment of its mission, the INS assumes the following institutional values and guidelines:
- Excellence in all its activities;
- Transparency as a commitment to apparent accountability to society regarding institutional performance;
- Reduction of regional inequities and inequalities between vulnerable groups. The INS's studies, investigations, and services should prioritize contributing to the reduction of inequities in the country.;
- Ethics in research involving humans directly or indirectly or the use of animals in experimentation;
- Internal solidarity and with peer institutions, particularly those in regions or countries with lower scientific, economic, and social development;
- Integrity and focus of objectives, proposals, and actions among various units and subunits of INS, directed towards the knowledge and solution of priority health problems and situations;
- Continuous self-assessment of individual, collective, and institutional performance as a mechanism for learning, adjustment, and permanent improvement: promotion of participatory management of innovation capacity, indispensable for the sustainable social development of a country.
